A woman that was involved in a two-car accident on Route 1 in South Brunswick has died from her injuries at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
The accident occurred May 11 at 9:10 p.m. on the north side of Route 1. A man thought to be in his late 60s was also severely injured in the accident. Both were from Texas traveling on Route 1 in South Brunswick at the time of the accident. The woman driver was believed to also be in her late 60s.
Details of the accident weren’t clear at the time of the incident, but it is believed that the woman made a left turn at the intersection of Route 1 and New Road and collided nearly head-on with another vehicle.
The South Brunswick Police Department released a photo of the accident displaying a four-door car that had front end wreckage and was situated on the center median of the highway. It appeared that the airbags inside the vehicle had been deployed during the impact of the crash.
A passenger that was a minor was also hurt in the car crash with a broken leg. They are expected to recover from their injuries, according to police officials. Five other persons were also injured in the crash, including the woman’s husband that underwent surgery for the injuries he sustained during the crash.
Route 1 was closed for more than two hours at New Road following the accident. Details of the accident were not available immediately following the crash. Investigators were present at the scene of the accident for several hours following the incident. No charges have been filed against either driver.
