The parents of the young boy who was killed by an alligator at the Walt Disney World Resort do not plan to sue Disney, according to a recent report.
Lane Graves, a two-year-old boy, was killed on June 14 when an alligator grabbed him from the edge of the Seven Seas Lagoon at Walt Disney World in Florida. The Graves family was visiting Disney World from Nebraska and staying at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. When Lane’s father saw that his son had been snatched from the shore, he rushed to the water and tried to save him. However, a second alligator reportedly attacked the adult, preventing him from stopping the alligator attack against his son. Rescuers searched for the boy and eventually located him just a few feet from the site of the attack. Medical examiners said that the boy likely died as a result of drowning.
The mother and father of Lane Graves recently issued a statement indicating that they do not intend to file a lawsuit against Disney or anyone else as a result of their son’s death. The parents stated that they “are broken” and “will forever struggle” with what happened. However, indicated the family’s statement, they do not want to prolong this nightmarish situation or drag it into the courts.
The Graves family also said that the plan to create a charitable foundation that will be named after their son. It is unclear at this time what the focus of the charity will be and what organizations or individuals the funds will go towards.
It remains possible that the family members of the victim could change their minds and decide to file a wrongful death lawsuit against Disney or anyone else they deem responsible for their tragic loss.
