A 29-year-old Long Branch man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting and robbery. The man faces a litany of charges including murder, felony murder, robbery, possession of a firearm for unlawful purposes, and unlawful possession of a firearm resulting in death, according to reports.
The judge in the case ordered the man to be held without the possibility of bail at the Monmouth County Jail. He will be held there until his hearing. At that time, the judge will determine if bail can be offered or if he will need to stay in jail until his trial date.
The victim’s wife was present in court the day that the shooter had his detention hearing. She was the one who found her husband bleeding and on the ground after being shot. The incident occurred right outside their home’s front door. The police were called at 11:41 p.m. where they found the man unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at 11:56 p.m. that same evening.
Interestingly, the alleged shooter has a lawsuit that is currently pending with the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. It involves an incident where he was being chased by police and was injured. Two other people were also killed in the pursuit. The man denies the charges and claims he is being targeted by the police because of the lawsuit he filed against the Prosecutor’s Office.
If prosecuted for the murder charges, the man would face a minimum prison sentence of 30 years without parole. He could also get life in prison. This is in addition to the sentencing for the robbery and weapon charges.
