It does not appear that famed comedian Bill Cosby will face criminal charges over rape allegations in Los Angeles, California. This news comes two weeks after Cosby, the popular entertainer who has been publicly accused of sexually assaulting more than 50 women, was recently charged with a rape-related crime in Philadelphia, PA.
That alleged sexual assault in Philly stemmed from an encounter more than a decade ago, with the reported victim, Andrea Constand, claiming that Cosby drugged her with Quaaludes while she visited him at his Philadelphia home in 2004.
The Los Angeles County district attorney recently decided that the district attorney’s office would not be pursuing charges against Cosby in connection with two different sexual assault allegations. One of the alleged victims in LA claimed that she was sexually assaulted by Cosby in 1965; the other alleged victim told law enforcement that Cosby raped her in 2008. The accusers maintained their confidentiality throughout the process, with authorities referring to them only as “Jane Doe No. 1” and “Jane Doe No. 2.”
In both cases, it was decided by the LA County District Attorney’s Office that the sexual assault allegations would not result in criminal charges because the statute of limitations in each case had expired.
At this time, LA County prosecutors do not have any plans to reopen the cases. However, one of the alleged victims has reportedly filed a federal lawsuit against Cosby, so it is possible that he will eventually have to address the allegations in federal court.
