Northfield NJ police arrested a man who allegedly burglarized a local residence and violently attacked a female resident.

The suspect, along with another man, allegedly committed the home invasion around 2:00 a.m. According to law enforcement, the two burglars broke into a house located on the 200 block of Jackson Avenue in Northfield NJ. Once inside the home, the suspects reportedly walked upstairs to the second floor and entered a bedroom. One of the suspects allegedly stood outside the room while the other suspect jumped on top of a female resident in her bed. The suspect who is now in police custody then allegedly used his hand to cover the victim’s mouth and threatened to hurt her if she made any noise or woke up an infant child sleeping in the same room.

The victim later told police that the suspect grabbed her and dragged her to another area of the house. At some point, the victim was able to briefly get away from the suspect and make a run for it. While running, the victim screamed at the top of her lungs, which awakened another female resident in the house. The other woman secured the door to her room and dialed 911, prompting the suspects to exit the residence and flee the neighborhood.

Fortunately, none of the victims were seriously injured as a result of the violent incident. However, one of the victims did require medical treatment at a local hospital for lacerations and bruises suffered during her struggle with one of the culprits.

By the time police officers got to the scene, the suspects were long gone. Police did manage to capture one of the men a few days later. That suspect is a 29-year-old resident of Northfield, New Jersey. He has been charged with several crimes in connection with the home invasion, including:

·       Burglary

·       Aggravated Assault

·       Terroristic Threats

·       Criminal Restraint

·       Conspiracy

After being placed under arrest and charged, the suspect was remanded to the Atlantic County Jail in Mays Landing. He was being held at the jail in lieu of a $50K bail amount.

Meanwhile, detectives with both the Northfield Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office are still investigating the home invasion. At this time, investigators have not yet identified, or located, the second suspect in the burglary.
