Two Teens Arrested for Allegedly Committing Armed Robbery in Rumson, NJ

Police recently arrested two teenagers accused of committing an armed robbery at a residence in Rumson, New Jersey.

The theft crime went down around 12:30 a.m. on August 23, 2016, at a house located on Riverside Drive in Rumson, NJ. The suspects allegedly brandished at least one firearm while robbing two people inside the home. According to authorities, the juvenile suspects flashed a handgun and threatened to shoot the victims unless they handed over money and personal possessions.

The suspects allegedly got away with $35 in cash and an iPhone. They were seen running out of the house and getting into a motor vehicle before fleeing the neighborhood.

Both of the victims, who are minors, were unharmed during the robbery. They were able to provide Rumson NJ cops with detailed descriptions of the suspects. The suspects in the robbery are a 17-year-old Middletown resident and an 18-year-old Middletown resident.

A little more than a week after the theft incident, police apprehended the 17-year-old suspect. He was subsequently taken to the Middlesex County Youth Detention Center in North Brunswick, where he was being held while awaiting resolution of the case.

The 18-year-old suspect was located and placed under arrest just a few days later. A Middletown NJ patrol officer recognized the suspect from an arrest warrant issued in connection with the Rumson NJ robbery. Several Middletown cops then surrounded the suspect at a residence in Middletown. The suspect eventually surrendered to police and was taken to the Monmouth County Jail, where he is being held in lieu of a $250K bail amount.

The suspects now face criminal charges for first degree armed robbery. While robbery is typically classified as a second degree felony, it becomes a first degree felony when the offender uses a deadly weapon such as a handgun or a knife during the commission of the theft.
