Old Bridge NJ Man Arrested for Luring Incident, Accused of Trying to Lure Minor

Police recently arrested an Old Bridge man accused of trying to lure an underage girl for the purpose of engaging in sexual conduct.

The suspect was arrested in Keyport, New Jersey, where he allegedly planned to meet the underage victim. Although very few details about the victim have been made public, law enforcement officials did confirm that the victim is a 14-year-old female and that she lives in Keyport, NJ.

The suspect, a 25-year-old male from Old Bridge, NJ, allegedly engaged in sexually explicit conversations with the victim. It is unclear at this time whether those conversations took place over the Internet or via cell phone text messaging.

Authorities indicated that the inappropriate conversations between the adult male suspect and the underage female victim eventually turned to the subject to meeting up in person. The suspect allegedly made plans with the victim to meet at a location in Keyport NJ and have sex.

The victim came forward to police and reported the alleged sex crimes, prompting the Keyport Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office to open an investigation. The suspect was eventually placed under arrest and charged with numerous sexual offenses, including charges for attempting to lure or entice a minor into a car for the purpose of having sex and engaging in sexual conduct which would impair or debauch the morals of a child.

If the suspect is convicted on the most serious charges of luring a minor, he would be subject to severe penalties. That’s because N.J.S.A. 2C:13-6 classifies luring as a second degree felony. A conviction for second degree luring could lead to a sentence of 5-10 years in New Jersey State Prison, as well as a requirement to register as a convicted sex offender under Megan’s Law.

While the criminal charges against the suspect remain pending, he is being held in jail on a $100K bail amount. Moreover, there is no 10-percent cash option available for posting bail, so the suspect will have to post the entire amount in order to secure his release from the correctional facility. In the event that the suspect does manage to get released on bail, he will likely be prohibited from making any contact with the victim.
