Monmouth County prosecutors recently made the decision to criminally charge a Keansburg NJ man accused of starting a fire at a local residence.
According to authorities, the suspect intentionally set fire to a Keansburg home on October 2, 2016. The Keansburg Police Department received a 911 call from the residents of the house, which is located at 34 Pineview Avenue in Keansburg, New Jersey. The residents told the police dispatcher that someone had broken into their home and deliberately set fire to bedding material in the living room.
When firefighters and police officers arrived at the scene, they quickly extinguished the fire. Keansburg cops then located the suspect outside the home and arrested him.
At this time, law enforcement officials have not indicated whether the suspect knows the residents of the Keansburg home or why he would have wanted to start a fire at the house.
The suspect is a 55-year-old man who resides in Keansburg, New Jersey. He faces very serious criminal charges for second degree aggravated arson and third degree burglary. If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the aggravated arson charges, he could be sentenced to 5-10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
After being placed under arrest, charged, and processed, the suspect was remanded to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold, NJ. He was ordered held at the Monmouth County jail in lieu of a bail amount of $75,000, with no 10-percent cash option made available to post bail.
Additionally, a superior court judge instructed the suspect to steer clear of the scene of the fire in the event that he does manage to secure his release on bail. This suggests that Monmouth County detectives and Keansburg police are still investigating the fire and gathering evidence.
