NJ Man Accused of Murdering His Young Son, Faces Murder Charges

David Creato, Jr., the New Jersey man accused of murdering his three-year-old son, is set to stand trial in Camden County Superior Court after the judge in the homicide case refused to dismiss a grand jury indictment.

Creato’s son Brendan went missing on the morning of October 13, 2015. Just a few hours after Creato contacted law enforcement to report the disappearance of his child, the boy’s body was found in a creek near Creato’s apartment in Haddon Township, NJ.

During the subsequent investigation, police reportedly noticed that the victim’s socks were clean, indicating that he had probably been killed elsewhere and then taken to the woods. Law enforcement eventually connected Creato to the homicide and subsequently charged him with multiple crimes, including first degree murder and endangering the welfare of a child.

Creato recently attempted to get the indictment dismissed, but the superior court judge denied the motion to dismiss. Creato’s defense attorney argued that Dr. Gerald Feigin, the medical examiner who conducted an autopsy on the victim’s body, lied to the grand jury when he said that he went to the crime scene on the day the body was found. In fact, said Creato’s lawyer, Feigin did not actually visit the crime scene until a few days later. According to the defense in the homicide case, this constituted a gross violation of the medical examiner’s duty and compromised the murder investigation.

The prosecutor in the case countered that the medical examiner followed procedure. Ultimately, the judge agreed with the prosecutor and denied the defense motion to dismiss the murder charges against Creato.

While the charges remain pending, Creato is being held at the Camden County Correctional Facility in Camden NJ in lieu of a massive $750K bail amount.
