When it Comes to Sexual Harassment in the Workplace, There are No Boundaries

When it comes to sexual harassment claims, far too many people make the mistake of thinking that it only happens to women. They conjure the image of the small, diminutive secretary being groped or harassed by the intimidating executive — Mad Men style. However, the reality is that sexual harassment happens to everyone. Just ask Mendham Police Chief Steven Crawford who recently filed a notice of intent to sue the township.

The notice claims that Crawford’s colleagues made inappropriate statements to him about his physique, personal and family relationships, sexuality, sexual orientation, size of his genitals, morals and reputation as a law abiding citizen, family orientation and desire to have children. Crawford claims he complained to unidentified officials but no action was taken.

The reality is that there are many layers of sexual harassment which are far less obvious than overt sexual advances. Unfortunately, people often fail to realize that they’re being “harassed” under the law. Instead, they keep quiet and walk around their workplaces every day feeling uncomfortable and objectified without realizing that they have any means to do anything about it.

Everyone has the right to feel safe and comfortable at work. If you feel as though you’re being sexually harassed, but are unsure if you have a case, talk to an experienced and qualified employment attorney. By reviewing your case, a skilled discrimination lawyer will be able to determine the best way to help you get justice.

You don’t have to stand for objectification, no matter who you are. If you have been subject to sexual harassment in the workplace, call Rudnick, Addonizio, Pappa & Casazza today.
